ELT TOGETHER: Inquiry based learning in the ELT Classroom
by Philip Haines
Inquiry-based learning as an approach gets students active in the process of learning and can be both engaging and motivating, as well as being rewarding for the teacher. This way of working does come with some challenges, though these are far outweighed by the benefits. In this session we will start by defining what inquiry-based learning is and discussing its benefits. We will then move on to look at the difficulties teachers face in implementing this approach. Finally, the main part of the session will focus on overcoming these difficulties and giving practical advice for its implementation in the language classroom.
